| Hida
-- the Japanese Islands -- it was mostly located in the center, and
in ancient times, from the Jomon period, the culture of north, south,
east and west crowded, and it has developed by being intricately interwoven
with each other and suiting. Climate is inland nature basin type climate,
the temperature difference of day and night, summer and winter is
large, and humidity is low.It is very cold in winter and snow dances,
and when becoming cold, it may fall to 15 degrees below the freezing
point.It is dazzling in the daytime, it is common for sunlight to
be as strong as for the eye not to be opened, and, and yet, the low

★Jomon
period〜Kofun period★ |
| Very
many ruins are located in Hida and it is imagined that culture was
opened fairly for many years. The Asabachi unearthed from the ruins
of the Katano town was specified to be the important cultural property
of a country, and 75 sets of habitation sites and the stone circle
were unearthed from the ruins of Kakiuchi of Ueno town. In village
of Hida, a vegetable resources, such as a chestnut and a walnut, a
wild boar, a bear, and a deer, was abundant, and the collection and
the hunting life were developed in rich nature. |

★Hakuo
period/Nara period★ |
| 1350
years ago, it was decided that a tax was stored by Taika-no-kaishin.
Since there are few rice and textiles which are mountainous countries,
peoele had to go to a capital and will be committed for 250〜300 days
in a year. In the capital, carpenter work which builds a royal palace,
a gate, a temple, etc. was done. Ten persons were assigned at a time
for every 50 houses, the carpenter around 100 persons went out from
Hida. Since they were born and grew up to wooden abundant Hida, carpenter
work is its favorite very much. The splendid building was done by
the hand of the carpenter of Hida. However, it is said that there
were also those from whom work is painful and escapes. The inside
of the person who built the famous temple historically, many a carpenter's
names are seen. |

★Heian
period〜Sengoku period★ |
| Hida came
to be governed by Heike when Heike grasped the world. It is said that
The center was present Sanfukujimachi in Takayama-shi, and the castle
was built by the town. It is thought that Takayama of the Kamakura
period had many unknown things, and the political center probably
moved to the direction for Yoshiki in the north direction of Takayama-shi.
Takayamageki had built the castle to Tenjinyama in the end of the
Muromachi period. Therefore, it is told that it came to be called
Takayama near the castle of Takayamageki. when it became the Sengoku
period, Mr. Mituki who had influence in mashita which is the south
of Takayama marched out to Takayama, and he built the Matsukura castle.
Although Hideyoshi Toyotomi came to store the country in Japan these
days, Mr. Miki did not follow Hideyoshi but he has been ruined by
Kanamori who is Hideyoshi's retainer. |

★Kanamori
period★ |
| Hideyoshi
Toyotomi attacked Narimasa Sasa who was present in Etchuu in July,
1585. Moreover, Kanamori who became the feudal lord of Hida fought
for Tokugawa at the Battle of Sekigahara. Record that the castle which
Kanamori built in 13 years in 1588 to 1600 was the wonderfulness,
and is not rash in Japan remains. Moreover, construction of a castle
town is also performed simultaneously with a castle. Heights were
used as the samurai ground so that a castle might be surrounded, the
place low one step was made into townspeople's town, and the temple
was established in Higashiyama like Kyoto. |

★Tenryo
period★ |
| The government
controlled area period continued for 25 generation, 177 years. The
Ohara who is a government official stopped felling by the command
of a government in 1771, the representation of the village in Hida
was collected in 1773, and it sentenced to recarrying out a land survey.
So the farmers of Hida who had only a few rice field thought that
new land tax became still severer, that requested for the land survey
stop. And the agrarian disturbance which continues for 180 years happened.Three
famous are included in it, and it is named Meiwa, Yasunaga, and the
Tenmei disturbance. A little more than 9000 farmers were punished
for Meiwa and the Yasunaga disturbance. However, when the political
injustice of Ohara Kamegoro who is a government official was revealed,
although Ohara was exiled, the crime by the side of a farmer was light,
in the Tenmei disturbance. |

★From
Meiji period★ |
| Although
Umemura came to Takayama and it became the governor on March 3, 1868,
the men of Takayama who got used to the old custom could not follow
Umemura's rapid reform, but caused the incident of the Umemura disturbance,
and have driven out Governor Umemura. Takayama-ichinomachi-mura and
Ninomachi-mura and Sannomachi-mura merged and it became Takayama-cho.
Hida became a part of Gifu Prefecture, new town organization was carried
out by 15,385 persons in 1889, and Hida merged Nada-mura in 1926.
JR Takayama Line was opened for traffic in 1934, and modernization
of Takayama progressed quickly. It merged Daimyocyo and became Takayama-shi,
and Hozuemura was merged in 1943, Daihachigamura was merged in 1955,
and it became the present Takayama-shi. |

★Origin
of "Sarubobo"★ |
| since
there was no doll, the girl had the mother and the grandmother make
a simple doll, she played with it. Moreover, it is said that when
a daughter becomes pregnant, it made while wishing an easy delivery
and marital gratification. In the city, even if the European and
American new doll etc. was transmitted from early, the customs which
make Sarubobo remained into people till recent years that it is
hard to get across to here Hida. |

mother and the grand mother made with cloth which remains,wishing
a fortunate marriage of their child and a grandchild and easy delivery.
It is valued as charms against misfortunes. |

reason without a face★ |
| Probably,
an eye did not apply well simply since it was popular specialization.
It seems that there are much those who consider it dearer not to
put in an eye since it becames the same feeling as itself,it is
glad together when glad,and feels sad together when sad, although,
depending on the area, it seems that there is also a custom that
the person given is superstitious by writing an eye. |
